Many plants still keep an old worm reducer that looks rusty and worn. After teardown the bronze wheel is damaged, noise is high and heat rises fast. The first instinct is often to buy a complete new unit.
A new reducer is expensive and lead times are long; downtime hurts the line more. If the housing has no cracks and mounting dimensions are intact, overhaul is practical: remachine only the worn worm set and keep the housing—saving a large share of capital cost.
Like the opened housing in the photo, heavy surface rust does not mean scrap if strength and mounting holes are still good. We start with full teardown: bearing seats, bore, flange dimensions, then reverse-engineer tooth form, module and lead from the worn pair.
Worn bronze wheels and steel worms are remade as a matched set—wear-resistant bronze wheel, quenched and tempered worm—then bearings, seals and gaskets are renewed, debris cleaned, backlash reset and a no-load run checks heat, noise and leakage. Performance can approach a new unit.
Overhaul is not simple parts swapping. Many old units are obsolete non-standards with lost drawings. Xinmi measures from the worn sample and can supply dual-lead or enveloping pairs for mills, lifting gear and screw-jack gearboxes.

When overhaul fits: no cracks, sound base, only wheel wear, worm scoring, bearing failure or oil leak/noise. Cracked or badly deformed housings should not be repaired.
